What to do when there are no farms around your village February 1, 2009

The answer is easy. If you can’t raid anybody, there are a few easy things you can do.

1. Don’t waste your resources training offensive troops. If you aren’t attacking anybody, there is no point in offensive troops. Just spend your resources on defensive troops, because they will be the best use to you.

2. Cranny Up! If you play Travian, you will get attacked. The best way to make sure you aren’t losing resources is to build a cranny. This way, you will have your defensive troops in your village, defenses (Wall, traps, etc.), and your cranny. If anyone attacks you, they will lose lots of troops, and gain no resources. This is what every raider with common sense will do when this happens: STOP. If they see no point in attacking you, they won’t attack you.

3. Focus on your own resource production. If you can’t get resources by attacking, you will have to rely on your own resource production, so make sure you have a really high crop production.

4. Become a Trader. Trade for your resources!

5. Ask for them. You can ask for resources from an alliance member. If you just ask someone you don’t know who isn’t in your alliance right out of the blue, they probably won’t give it to you.

6. Conquer an Oasis. Depending on the Oasis you conquer, you can get a 25% bonus on a certain resource. Some of them will give you a 25% bonus on two resources! (Ex. a 25% bonus on clay, and a 25% bonus on iron)

7. Build a second village near farms. Scout around on your map. Find some farms all clumped together, and build another village near them. Be sure to send troops to your new village. This is where you will need to train offensive troops to raid the farms near your new village. Also, you can make your new village in a 9 or 15 cropper. This way, you can get a crop bonus and also have basically a spawning point for many successful raids in the near future.

Enjoy and Happy Raiding,
Scott

This is THE best way to get yourself catapulted to zero pop. If a large raider can’t get any resources from you, he will lay off for a while, try again, wait, try again. If eventually no resources are to be gained from you, he will take out his catapults and destroy your village, first croplocking you (taking out granary, wheat field, marketplace) and then try to farm you. If he still does not get anything, he will start random catapult attacks hoping to take out your crannies before he destroys your warehouse.
Scott: Sounds like a lot of effort to get rid of a farm. There’s also the possibility that your attacker doesn’t even have catapults yet. I doubt that many people will put in that many resources and that much effort and time to destroy one farm. Plus, a larger attacker will have other problems to deal with and other competition to fight.

“Some of them will give you a 25% bonus on two resources! (Ex. a 25% bonus on clay, and a 25% bonus on iron)”

I’ve only played on T3 servers, but for the two resources oases, it is always lumber/crop, clay/crop, iron/crop or crop/crop. Not the clay/iron you used as an example :)
Scott: You’re right, my mistake. It was just an example :)

Regarding Aordins Reply

Totally agree because thats what i do. If you have 10,000 catapults and not using them they may as well be used to destryoy someone who is no use to you but could end up causing problems along the line like growing, trust me. If i was farming you with no resources you wouldnt last long.

i always think you shouldnt build crannies, bc when you are better and your warehouse can hold 14400, that would be a waste of space. i am not exactly a top player (rank hovers around 700), but i always figured that building up defensive troops is better once your pop is over 100. i never farm anyone though, it just makes enemies.
